Giving young patients the ultimate opportunity to design a Nike shoe from the ground up: Since 2004, that’s Nike’s and OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital’s mission. Let us introduce to you this year’s Doernbecher Freestyle Collection and the heroes who powered this year’s designs.
The program was launched back in 2004 and gives its participants the opportunity to create their own Nike shoe and apparel item. A team of professionals like doctors, nurses, social workers, Child Life staff and others ensure comprehensive care for the child and their familiy before and while they design their collections on the Nike campus.
“We have many methods for care in our line of work, whether it’s chemotherapy or being a listener at the child’s bedside. Critical to all of these is creating an environment for kids to not feel like they’re in a hospital,” says Dana Braner, physician-in-chief, OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital. “The funds that Nike raises from Freestyle helps bring all of that to the table for us.”
With the sale, the hospital’s mission is supported, helping kids tothrive in good health. Until now, nearly $24 million have been raised. OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital is the first full-service children’s hospital in the Pacific Northwest and is located in Nike’s hometown of Portland, Oregon. The hospital provides specialty services that are not available at other places in the region and believes – just like Nike – that every child has potential for great things.
Starting on December 7, the Doernbecher Freestyle 2019 Collection can be purchased on nike.com and at select Nike retail and partner stores.
