Without question, this year’s New York Fashion Week is a special event. Not only do most of the events take place exclusively digitally, it is also a chance for external viewers to participate in the shows and events. What remains unchanged, however, is the pressure for the designers to convince with their collections and to be remembered. Not quite as stressful is the event for you: Every day we will be summarising the highlights of New York Fashion Week for you.
Jason Wu
Jason Wu opened the New York Fashion Week on the terrace in a tropical atmosphere. Light clothing can be seen with striking patterns and expressive as well as subtle colors. Among them many blue and purple tones. About his collection, the designer states that he aims to create clothes not just for the moment, but for an infinite existence. His home, Tulum, was one of the sources of inspiration for the new collection. The individual pieces of clothing are reminiscent of the light tropical colors with which he has many fond memories. In keeping with the motto that fashion should inspire and make us happy, the theme of the collection was escapism. Jason Wu mentioned: “It has been really fun exploring the more casual side of the Jason Wu woman, which is why I decided to show my more casual contemporary counterpart line for the first time on the runway.”

Tadashi Shoji
For the designer Tadashi Shoji there is hope in the time we are going through: “Winter does not last forever”. Tadashi Shoji’s Spring 2021 collection is a rebirth, with new beginnings after a dark season. Tadashi Shoji uses many metaphors to describe what he has been missing over the past months: He finally wants to celebrate again, leave the dark behind and experience with his senses what he misses, like birdsong or the sweet smell of flowers. RVNG
Jordan Stewart is the designer behind the Canadian luxury fashion label RVNG. She is already recognized by many from Toronto Fashion Week for her high-quality evening dresses. A small surprise for the audience was to see the Canadian actor Laura Vandervoort from Toronto on the catwalk at the show.

macgraw
A declaration of love to their parents or is the collection a love story in itself? An opinion on this can be formed by anyone who has seen the beautiful short film about the Spring 2021 collection of the Australian label macgraw. Designers Beth and Tessa MacGraw found the only remaining photo of their parents’ wedding while cleaning up during lockdown. Based on this photo and the mother’s wedding dress, the Spring 2021 collection was created.
